Nintendo Reveals GBA and Game Boy Libraries Do Not Have Set Release Schedule

The new Game Boy applications now available are a fantastic collection of games thus far. There are games like Kirby's Dream Land, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX among others. Pokemon Trading Card Game, Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble, Golden Sun, and Metroid Fusion are a few of the verified games on Nintendo's to-do list. Players will need to maintain their Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions active and make sure their consoles and applications are updated in order to acquire the next batch of games without any problems because there is no set schedule for when each game will be released.Nintendo announced that there is no clear schedule for when games will be added to the libraries of the new Game Boy and Game Boy Advance apps after unveiling two new game console applications for the Nintendo Switch Online service. Just a few days after the February 2023 Nintendo Direct broadcast, an industry insider contacted Nintendo to inquire about the news.

Nintendo introduced the Game Boy and Game Boy Advance apps for Nintendo Switch Online users on February 8 during the Nintendo Direct. The Game Boy app does not need the Expansion Pack upgrade, however the GBA app must. Both apps have a limited selection of games when they first launch, but Nintendo has promised that more games will be introduced in the future.

Stephen Totilo, a co-author of Axios Gaming, reportedly tweeted (@stephentotilo) to Nintendo asking if users might anticipate new games on the Game Boy and Game Boy Advance apps every month. There is no set schedule for new releases, but each collection will continue to grow, Nintendo said in response to Totilo's request. While the answer was deceptive, it came as no surprise to users who responded to Totilo's question, though some users had concerns that Nintendo would be very selective with what they would add to the services. How many extra games that weren't confirmed during the Nintendo Direct will be introduced to these new services and to other console apps like the N64 and Sega Genesis are unknown at this time.

Though both the Game Boy and Game Boy Advance apps are long overdue, they are a wonderful addition to the Nintendo Switch Online library. There is still hope that more games, like Pokemon Red and Blue and possibly Mother 3, could be added to the services, though Nintendo is still focussing on the Switch as the platform enters its sixth year on the market. Nintendo will determine whether or not that occurs.
