Escape From Tarkov Rival in Development by PUBG Studios

Despite its complexity and depth, Escape From Tarkov occasionally has significant issues. Fans of EFT have lots of complaints to make, ranging from glitchy soundtracks to the presence of a big proportion of cheats. It's possible that Krafton and PUBG Studios' experience with managing a live-service battle royale might adapt effectively to a focused extraction shooter, despite the fact that PUBG is not without flaws. The creators of Escape From Tarkov, the infamously difficult extraction shooter from Battlestate Games, are being funded by PUBG publisher Krafton. At first, Tarkov did compete with other battle royale games in a small way, but since 2017, the game has established an unique market, and other developers are now looking to capitalize on the model as well.

Due to the mechanical difficulty of Escape From Tarkov, development can be admittedly pretty slow at times, which gives plenty of opportunity for other projects to gain attention. The most notable of these are Hunt: Showdown itself, the DMZ from Modern Warfare 2, and the Hazard Zone from Battlefield 2042, but it appears Krafton is anxious to join the fight as well.

Project BlackBudget is the codename for PUBG Studios' Escape From Tarkov rival, according to Kratfon's most recent financial report. The Loadout discovered the document, which describes the game as a "ever-changing PvPvE open-world and satisfying gunplay that delivers unpredictable and exciting experiences." The game would apparently launch on PC, consoles, and mobile devices, and based on what has been revealed so far, it's possible that this is Krafton's unannounced Unreal Engine 5 game.

It is still unclear exactly under what name Project BlackBudget will be released. However, it's important to note that Krafton has a significant number of other games in active production as well, suggesting that the Tarkov competitor may not be the company's top focus at this time. For instance, Krafton's upcoming dark fantasy game has already been officially announced and given a teaser, indicating that it is further advanced than BlackBudget may be.

As delayed as Battlestate Games might occasionally be, it is undeniable that Escape From Tarkov has advanced much since its first release to the general public. In all probability, Krafton's extraction shooter won't be released until late 2024 at the earliest; in the meantime, Tarkov will undoubtedly receive a few more rounds of updates. PUBG Studios will therefore have its job cut out for it.
