Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Dead Silence Demands: Infinity Ward's Response

Developer Infinity Ward of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is explaining to fans why it modified the way perks function in the new game, turning Dead Silence into a Field Upgrade rather than a Perk. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's open beta recently started, allowing users to experience the game before purchasing it later in October. Infinity Ward asked for player feedback throughout this beta test so that Modern Warfare 2 might be updated before its official release.

When fans commented on the Modern Warfare 2 beta, many problems were raised. While the Gunsmith 2.0 system, gunplay, and majority of the maps in the beta were all done well, there were certain shortcomings that players hoped might be resolved. Many players have noted that the enemy footsteps in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 need to be adjusted. Infinity Ward stated that footstep sounds would be changed in the future, but it appears the developer is standing by other requests for adjustments.

Fans have called attention to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Perk system as being somewhat dubious, but as stated in the developer's most recent Community Update, it looks that Infinity Ward believes in their new method of managing Perks. Infinity Ward claimed that, while the new perk system deviates from the original, the modifications represent a "good shakeup" to how matchmaking will operate in Modern Warfare 2, in addition to offering its own viewpoint on many of the issues brought up by beta players.

This creates a balance between freedom of movement and predictability, which may reduce annoyance because enemies won't just shoot down players because they sneaked up on them silently. Infinity Ward is also not changing the contentious mini map in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which no longer displays red dots while enemies are firing. This is in addition to not backing down from its Perk adjustments.

The October 28 release date for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
