Starship Troopers: Extermination Reveals Official Trailer

An official trailer for Starship Troopers: Extermination, which is based on the 1997 cult hit Starship Troopers, has been released by Offworld Industries. The last first-person shooter Starship Troopers game was released in 2005, the same year that Starship Troopers: The Roleplaying Game and Starship Troopers: The Miniatures Game were also released.

All Starship Troopers video game adaptations, including Extermination, were based on the film even though the title was originally a novel. The 1960 Hugo Award for Best Novel went to the original work, which received mixed reviews from critics who criticized the possible fascist undertones and glorification of war and the military. Nonetheless, similar ideas were utilized in the 1997 film as satire on fascism and power hand. The more current strategy game, Starship Troopers: Terran Command, has maintained a "very positive" rating on Steam since its debut, demonstrating that there is interest in the brand. In contrast to the 2005 Starship Troopers, which received generally poor reviews.

In a brief teaser that relates to the propaganda recruitment video shown in the 1997 film, Offworld Industries unveiled Starship Troopers: Extermination in 2022. Offworld Industries has since provided fans with additional content with the same arrogant propaganda tone. In the trailer, playable classes like assault units, heavy infantry, and medics are featured. In addition, the trailer suggests that the game may be rather difficult by stating that "the infestation will feel merciless" before urging players to cooperate in order to gather resources.

The game's release date on Steam is listed as 2023 without any other information, and the trailer finishes with a suggestion to wishlist it there. Offworld Industries has had prior success with its tactical First Person Shooter squad. Fans have recently criticized Offworld Industries' decisions regarding Squad, claiming that the game is falling to microtransactions. Tencent has been blamed by the audience.

Tencent keeps purchasing more and more stock in the gaming sector, including a significant investment in Ubisoft. Many fans see these purchases as an avaricious attempt to gain a monopoly and concern that the conglomerate will shift its attention away from creating quality games and toward a development strategy that is more focused on making money. That said, a lot of studios that Tencent has acquired major stakes in, like From Software, or studios that Tencent has purchased completely continue to make top-notch games with little involvement. Starship Troopers, like Wanted: Dead, is likely to portray powerful corporations and governments in a negative light; this is in stark contrast to how many gamers view Tencent.
