The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Gets Hotfix for Update 4.01

A fresh update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt been published by CD Projekt Red. The Witcher 3's 4.01 Update went released earlier this month; today's hotfix fixes various problems with the prior patch.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, an action role-playing game, was released by CDPR in 2015 to a decisively favorable reaction. The game centers on the main character of the series, Geralt of Rivia, who is on a mission to rescue his adopted daughter Ciri from the Wild Hunt and find his long-lost lover, Yennefer. He fights Slavic mythology-inspired monsters as players explore the intricate dark fantasy realm of The Witcher 3. After a difficult development cycle, the game's next-gen re-release was launched in December but was filled with bugs and performance problems. Nevertheless, the Witcher 3 remake received favorable reviews on par with the first release.

The Witcher 3's 4.01 Patch is intended to fix some of the problems, according to the developers. Unfortunately, although the patch helped fix numerous difficulties with the Witcher 3's succeeding ports, it also brought up a fresh set of PC performance concerns. Fortunately, it appears that developers have found the issue since the studio tweeted that a suitable solution has been released. Despite the lack of extensive patch notes, CD Projekt says that the game's version number will not change and that the hotfix is quite minimal. In any case, this is wonderful news for PC users who are playing The Witcher 3.

On February 2, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's 4.01 update went live for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. It included a number of improvements for issues with the next-gen update. The patch largely tackled stability and performance problems, although it also fixed a few localization problems. Users of next-generation consoles and PCs were both impacted by the upgrade, and players on both platforms reported issues. The Witcher 3's performance, however, is only addressed by today's update, which is PC-specific. Although CDPR did not clarify what was causing these PC performance issues, it claims that they should be fixed right away.

Even without considering the PC performance difficulties, the 4.01 Update for The Witcher 3 received negative reviews. Some of these complaints were made by players in their answers to the CD Projekt Red, the publisher and developer of the game, tweet. One of these is the developer's disregard for a serious memory leak problem that results in a slow but extremely significant performance loss. Others criticized the hotfixes for their delayed deployment and the fact that they had little effect on the consoles' performance and visual problems brought on by Patch 4.01.
