Skyrim Mod Reintroduces the Unsettling Bug Bethesda Fixed

The unsettling Skyrim issue that makes mannequins roam around on their own accord has been reinstated, according to a modder. Even though Bethesda has been fixing bugs like this one in Skyrim, many people are already aware of how many problems the role-playing game has had since its release almost 11 years ago. While many of these bugs may be unimportant and even entertaining, some are more detrimental to the experience than others and must be exterminated.

Even Skyrim's Anniversary Edition contains game-breaking bugs, and the situation has effectively become a running joke among gamers. One amusing bug that players have pointed out is guards' ability to fly, but much more serious problems include full crashes or mission NPCs spawning in places the player can't access. Then there are bugs that are just plain creepy, like this one that a passionate modder has brought back.

According to PCGamesN, a user using the handle TheBlackCladWanderer has posted a hack for Skyrim that restores the ability for mannequins to roam around, despite the creator having previously removed it. In the glitch known as "Mannaquins Move," there doesn't seem to be any justification for bringing it back other than the creator's claim that someone on Twitter urged them to make the statues move once more. In a brief FAQ on Nexus Mods, they refer to the bug's removal as Bethesda's "error" and offer no additional justification for why they want mannequins to walk once more in response to the query "why?"

It's both funny and scary at the same time. Mannequins have been seen traveling on their own, sometimes through entire villages, by a number of Skyrim gamers. It is highly startling and even unsettling to observe, especially when players are not prepared for it to occur. They have even been observed to fixate on the player and turn their heads to watch how they move. Most people would agree that it was a good decision for Bethesda to remove the problem, however TheBlackCladWanderer obviously disagreed.

Skyrim is known for its obvious flaws while being one of the most immersive open world games currently available. Many people are interested to see whether subsequent games from Bethesda will be just as full of problems as TES5 or whether there wil be better attempts to make sure upcoming releases are more polished. The studio is close to releasing Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 is now in development.

For the PC, PS3, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is now available.
